In the spirit of Spring, I thought it would be fun to explore colorful cottages inside and out.
So what exactly is a cottage and what defines cottage style?
The word “cottage” derives from England and typically referred to a small, one-story with living space on the ground floor with bedrooms in the roofspace. In the US, cottages are smaller homes that are often seen as country or coastal vacation resort dwellings.
I would use “charming” to best describe the cottage style in a single word. Style elements usually include casual and comfy furniture, brightly colored exterior doors and shutters, white picket fences, lots of florals, as well as eclectic and personal accents. The space should evoke coziness and warmth.
Notice their similar “cottagie” details….painted shutters and doors, small roof space rooms and dormers, shingle or wood siding, picket fences, lush gardens amd quaint porches.
These spaces incorporate the vibrant colors of blooming flowers!
