Not just for denim anymore….the color Indigo is popping up all over the place these days. I like to think of Indigo as Blue’s “moody brother.” Its deep rich hue can feel both classic and modern depending on how it’s used. And although dark, this shade can give off warm and inviting vibes.
So what does Indigo and its color family of Blue do to our senses? Why is it so popular?
Leatrice Eisman, American color specialist and Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute gives us the scoop from her blog post “Retreat into a Place of Quiet Blue Calm #TBT”
“The color blue is strongly associated with sky and water, blue is perceived as a constant in our lives. In the presence of a blue environment, we feel calm. Humans are soothed and replenished when they view blue and there is some evidence that when blue enters our line of vision, the brain sends out chemical signals that work as a tranquilizer. Blue is an excellent choice for areas demanding mental concentration or for products and environments that invite concentration or relaxing, meditative moods.”
Let’s take a look at some beautiful examples of how Indigo was used in a number of different applications.
