2015 Pantone Color of the Year!

It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for!

The 2015 Pantone Color of the Year is MARSALA!

ea0a1f03580a235d1d16d8892283af33

Much different from 2014’s ‘Radiant Orchid’, Marsala’s rich, deep red hue is warm, comforting and traditional.

Marsala also known as fortified wine, is a tasteful hue that embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness. This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.

Pantone is the world-renowned authority on color and provider of color matching systems to various industries and for over a decade now, they have been choosing what is known as the Color of the Year.

The color typically reflects where they see trends moving based on the world’s cultural, social, artistic and technological status. If you’d like to learn more about Pantone and it’s color committee, read my previous blog titled “What is Pantone?

So why Marsala you ask?…..

“Marsala enriches our mind, body and soul, exuding confidence and stability. Marsala is a subtly seductive shade, one that draws us in to its embracing warmth.”

Leatrice Eiseman– Executive Director, Pantone Color Institute®

Not only is this color warm and soothing, but it is appealing to both men and women. Depending on how you use it, it could be more masculine if paired with warmer taupes and greys or feminine pairing it with blushes and rose hues.

Keep your eyes peeled in 2015 as this color will be popping up everywhere!

Pretty in Pink

Champagne, rose, flamingo…what do these words have in common? They are all shades of PINK! and in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I want to pay homage to this beautiful color!

Pink is extremely versatile. It can be soft and femenine or bold, vibrant and assertive. Used at any capacity, it can add tons of personality into a room. Its not always your first thought when choosing a color pallette, but Pink can be an amazing accent to many colors; i.e brown, grey, black, navy blue, turquoise, orange and even red.

Here are some great examples of how this color can be used:

Dynamic Duo: Turquoise & Tangerine!

Separately, they are vibrant, cheerful and fun accents for any space, but together Turquoise and Tangerine are a power couple!

dcc6686f7ab5b33ed6e95ea7abf09e3d

As a design blogger, I’m constantly looking at beautiful interiors of all sorts and was struck by how popular the combination of these colors have become.  If you look at a color wheel, they are innately complementary because they are directly opposite each other. You can see this relationship in the wheel below; blue hues are the primary color while complementary orange hues are on the opposite side making them compatible!

When complementary colors are put together, they create visual harmony giving the viewer an inner sense of order and balance…like all is right with the world…well, maybe not that much, but you know what I mean!

Here are some examples of amazing spaces I found featuring this dynamic duo. Hopefully they inspire you to integrate them into your interiors. Not only that, these colors are great selections to use for the upcoming Autumn season!

Fifty-ONE Shades of Gray

Who says you need bright colors to create a warm and inviting space? Often times, the color gray is equated to a contemporary or cold feel…however, I disagree. Softer shades of gray can provide a beautiful, calming environment for any style while deep, bold shades of gray can create a dramatic effect and sophistication. However you’re using it, this neutral palette is a timeless classic!

Here are some examples of non-contemporary rooms using different shades of gray. Hopefully they will inspire you to use them in your own home!

If you absolutely NEED to have color, another advantage to utilizing an all gray palette is that you can incorporate just about any accent color. Adding pops of color with throw pillows, accessories or flowers provides a quick update to your room.

The one floral pillow on the bed adds just the right amount of accent to the otherwise monochromatic palette.
